Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY Sports) - MSUM President Dr. Edna Szymanski tells WDAY Sports that she is pushing back a decision on Division 1 hockey until next summer.

Her reasons for the delay are to wait for the NCAA to further define D-1 parameters and to give fundraising efforts more time to develop. Szymanski said in an April press conference that the Dragons would add D-1 men’s and women’s hockey if sufficient money could be raised and conference membership could be secured.

She altered her stance on the conference by saying the Dragons may join as an independent.

She did tell WDAY’s Steve Hallstrom that she does think the Dragons will ultimately add both programs. In an April press conference, she said that they would be making the decision by the end of this year.
