DesLacs-Burlington teacher honored

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Biology teacher Mary Eldredge-Sandbo of DesLacs-Burlington is North Dakota's 2010 Teacher of the Year.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Biology teacher Mary Eldredge-Sandbo of DesLacs-Burlington is North Dakota's 2010 Teacher of the Year.

Eldredge-Sandbo was named Thursday during the North Dakota Education Association conference in Grand Forks. She has been a teacher for 26 years.

Eldredge-Sandbo, who has a master's degree in science education, says she tries to "foster an appreciation for the complexity of life." She says her teaching experiences have taught her that "education isn't nearly as much about telling students what we know as it is about learning, sharing, growing and then sharing some more."

The other Teacher of the Year candidates were Craig Erickson, a marketing education teacher at Fargo North High School; Max Laird, a science teacher at Community High School in Grand Forks and Mike Voglewede, a biology teacher at Northwood.
