BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's Board of Higher Education is scheduled to meet by telephone conference call Thursday to discuss the resignation of North Dakota State University President Joe Chapman.

University system Chancellor William Goetz is expecting the board to accept Chapman's resignation.

Goetz says the board will also talk about the process for hiring an interim president and choosing Chapman's permanent successor. Chapman has been president of the Fargo school for 11 years.

Goetz says he's hoping Chapman's successor will be hired by July 1.

The board has scheduled a special meeting for 8 a.m. Thursday to discuss Chapman's departure. Chapman turned in his resignation Wednesday and said he intends to leave Jan. 2.

Chapman's employment contract runs until June 30. Goetz says Chapman will be paid through Jan. 2 and will not receive any compensation after that. Chapman is paid $413,000 annually, with the school's foundation contributing $75,000 of that amount.
