Winnipeg canoeists make it to Fargo

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Two University of Winnipeg students canoeing to New Orleans have made it as far as Fargo.

It took 11 days for Nick Turnbull and Murray Jowett to canoe the Red River from Grand Forks. From Fargo, they plan to hitch a ride to St. Cloud and continue their trip down the Mississippi River to New Orleans.

The two say the trip already is more of an adventure than they anticipated. Jowett said the cold weather has been tough.

They have been camping along the way but say they got generous offers from people who invited them to spend the night in their homes.

Turnbull and Jowett hope to make it New Orleans by Christmas.
