Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Work will begin on a new admissions building at Fargo’s Red River Zoo, thanks to a generous donation from a prominent businessman. Shelly Ellig gave 400 thousand dollars to the project. 160 thousand still needs to be raised.
The interstate widening project next year is forcing the zoo to rebuild its entrance area. The new site will be on the southwest side of the zoo. The geothermal building will feature a gift shop, offices, and an exhibit with South American animals.
“A fast turnaround and it was critical we have a big donor come up front so we can start the construction and then continue to raise money, and Shelly did that for us.”
The building should be complete by April with more additions down the road. Construction starts Tuesday.
