Further Review: Bison foul, Twins managing, and volleyball giving

(WDAY Sports) - Tonight on Further Review, three cheers for the Twins GM and some video that Bison football fans may be interested in.

Remember that personal foul penalty that took NDSU out of field goal range with time running out Saturday? Well, you decide if it was the right call. Through open records request, we obtained the NDSU coaches copy. This is what most of us saw, Nick Mertens getting the ball deep into Illinois State Territory with NDSU down 3, but a personal foul penalty brings it back to midfield.

In the box is Paul Cornick in green blocking his guy and that last shove draws the flag. Now you can't say that play lost the game, but you can almost guarantee it took points off the board. Was it unnecessary, probably, but the play was still going and linemen are taught to stay with their blocks until they hear the whistle.

Will the Twins beat the Yankees in this playoff series, probably not, but they wouldn't be here if not for a couple deals made by General Manager Bill Smith. Carl Pavano, while not spectacular, gave the Twins some solid outings to help get the Twins back in the race and Orlando Cabrera filled a need at shortstop and in the number 2 spot hitting for power and average.

Let's hope that Smith makes a couple more moves in the off-season to help the Twins become a bigger factor in the American League.

Three cheers for the volleyball teams in Barnesville and Casselton. They raised several hundred dollars for cancer and Alzheimer’s research last night. We're seeing more and more of these kinds of events and while you might be tempted to roll your eyes at the next one, remember that they not only raise much needed money, but shows that these young people are trying to make the world a little better. Well done ladies.
