Casselton Newfoundland gets measured to be the world's tallest dog
Casselton, ND (WDAY TV) - It's no tall tale; a new world record may soon be coming to Casselton North Dakota. For a dog that is out of this world when it comes to size, taller than nearly all humans. Casselton, ND (WDAY TV) - It's no tall tale; a new world record may soon be coming to Casselton North Dakota. For a dog that is out of this world when it comes to size, taller than nearly all humans. When you think of a dog, it's usually one you can walk, handle, even sleep with, but for one woman, she has a difficult time doing any of those considering the sheer size of her pet.
It's not just small talk around the tiny town of Casselton.
“He’s big. He's big.”
“I think it's going to attack me.”
The big news these days is about beloved Boomer, no common canine.
“When we got him, he was three months old and his legs were really short and his body was really long and I thought, he's going to have short legs and all of a sudden his legs took off and they matched the length of his body.”
That's right; the now three year old Newfoundland weighs 180 pounds. Way above the average for this type of pooch. Not to mention big Boomer's impressive height or length.
“He’s muscle-y, like thick like dog, pure dog. He's just big.”
Owner Caryn Weber is hoping the overly intimidating boomer measures up. She's hoping her so-called sweetheart becomes world record material as the tallest living dog. In front of a slew of media, Casselton fills with onlookers capturing this rare moment.
With rulers in hand, witnesses closely watch what could become history. The nervous Boomer doesn't like all the attention, but he eventually gives in.
After all, it's not everyday you see a large dog that needs its own taxi to get around. Weber will send the measurements to the Guinness Book of World Records to be verified. It could take weeks before we know if boomer becomes even more famous.
