Small town excited for ethanol plant start up

Hankinson, ND (WDAY TV) - Some say it feels more like the holiday season already in Hankinson, North Dakota. That's because for the first time this year, the ethanol plant is up and running again. As we told you Thursday, Murphy Oil bought the Vera-Sun plant for 92-million dollars.

Hankinson, ND (WDAY TV) - Some say it feels more like the holiday season already in Hankinson, North Dakota. That's because for the first time this year, the ethanol plant is up and running again. As we told you Thursday, Murphy Oil bought the Vera-Sun plant for 92-million dollars.

After sitting idle for the last year, workers and the town are elated. Today, trucks full of corn started rolling into the ethanol plant in Hankinson.

Fifty workers like Elizabeth Thiele, who worked 30-years at Imation before coming to the ethanol plant, could not be happier to witness this start up.

“Today is so exciting, I couldn't sleep so I got up at 4 am and came to work.”

And after months of watching the plant sit idle there is a sense of relief and optimism. The conversation the last 9 months how you doing mayor and what is new with the plant this is great the jobs are secure.

Murphy Oil bought the Hankinson plant because of what they saw here, a strong work force with a good work ethic and efficient plant one of the largest in the country.

The ethanol plant will produce 110- million gallons of ethanol a year, processing 39-million bushels of corn.
