Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Many days are proclaimed holidays and you may not even know it. In fact today, September 24th is National Punctuation Day. A day set aside to celebrate the importance of proper punctuation. Closer to home, right here in Fargo, did you today is Free Thought Day?

September 24th, it's the day Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker has proclaimed Free Thought Day. A day where any thought or idea can be expressed, it's also a day that's brought a controversial speaker to the metro.

PZ Meyers is one of a few who isn't afraid to say he's an atheist. It's estimated that only one and a half percent of America’s will claim the same, but today as he speaks to a group of students at NDSU.

He says the ability to think as you which is crucial, especially in a time when he says religion is continually interjecting into many sectors of our lives.

Meyers says the number of atheists is expected to grow to about 25 percent of the population by 2020 as more people become comfortable speaking about their beliefs.
