Fargo, ND (WDAY-TV) -- One person died in an apartment building fire overnight.
Fire crews were called to the Essex Apartment Building at 1522 Gateway Circle in south Fargo at 11:10 last night.
Fire fighters say a man in his late 20’s died in the fire that started in his third floor apartment.
Fire Capt. Randy Weiss says the man who died was found outside his apartment in the hallway. Weiss says the man died as a result of the fire. Authorities did not immediately release his name.
No one else was hurt.
Right now, crews aren’t sure what caused the blaze, but investigators were on the scene all night looking through the wreckage.
Captain Weiss with the Fargo Fire Department tells WDAY 6 News that foul play is not suspected.
The fire damage was contained to the apartment unit and the hallway, but there is heavy smoke damage throughout the third floor.
The entire building was evacuated overnight and the Red Cross helped residents who didn’t have anywhere to go.
The victim’s name will be released after his family is notified.
He was the only one in the apartment at the time. Fire crews say there were working smoke detectors in the unit.
Damage is estimated at $80,000.
