Fargo, ND (WDAY-TV) -- Two Fargo men are behind bars in Kentucky, for allegedly trying to kidnap a 14-year-old middle school girl so she could marry a 14-year-old Fargo boy.
Police in Bowling Green, KY say they’ve never seen anything like it.
Officers arrested Dragan Jovanovic and Elvis Tahirovic when they tried to sign the girl out from her school on Monday.
Police say the men drove more than 1,000 miles from Fargo to Bowling Green with two of Jovanovic’s sons.
One of the boys met the girl online and the 14-year-olds decided they wanted to marry.
Officers say the men planned to pick the girls up at school and drive her back to Fargo.
After questioning the men, the principal found out they weren’t related and didn’t have permission to sign her out. In fact, police say the girl wasn’t even in school on Monday.
After the men left the school, police were called.
Jovanovic and Tahirovic are charged with attempted kidnapping of a minor.
The men are being held in a Kentucky jail.
