Ring dike option selected for Georgetown flood protection

Georgetown, Minnesota (WDAY TV) - A farm owner in the Georgetown Township will be getting a ring dike for his property. It's one of the 15 sites the Wild Rice watershed district is backing this year.

Georgetown, Minnesota (WDAY TV) - A farm owner in the Georgetown Township will be getting a ring dike for his property. It's one of the 15 sites the Wild Rice watershed district is backing this year.

The Clay County planning commission approved the protection at its meeting tonight. The Wild Rice watershed district will build the dike which will be built two feet above the record flood level, or a 100 year flood.

A representative from the watershed district says this is the best option for protecting rural farmers' land. It's also the most affordable.

"We do not want to tax our taxpayers any more than we have to."

"But it's going to be some tough decision down the road because we can't keep affording, you know, 35 percent increases."

The 35 percent increase is locked in for the next two years.
