The Becker County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a mobile home fire in Sugar Bush Township in which human remains were found.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday the White Earth Fire Department and White Earth Police Department responded to a mobile home fire in a secluded area of Sugar Bush Township.

The home had been destroyed by fire, but firefighters trying to control the hot spots found human remains, according to Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon.

The sheriff’s department, tribal police department and State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

“Further details of this incident cannot be released at this time due to the in-depth investigation occurring,” Gordon said in a news release. “We have tentatively identified the victim; however, positive identification will not be determined until the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Officer has determined the identity of the victim.”

The home was located in a secluded area with no close neighbors who might have been able to see flames during the course of the night, because the home is heavily sheltered by trees and brush, Gordon said.

More information will be released after the investigation is concluded, he added.
