Kindred, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A dramatic turn of events in Kindred just as the fall football season gets underway. The head football coach who also served as the school's Athletic Director has suddenly quit. WDAY 6 Reporter Travis Skonseng joins has the details.
The shocking resignation of Coach Roy Casey is the talk of the town tonight. He resigned Thursday after making controversial comments to high school students. Casey became head coach four seasons ago.
The questionable incident happened before the team's last game. Here's what we've learned, Coach Casey addressed the players in a negative way by making sexual, vulgar comments.
That's according to players and coaches. We are choosing not to air what he said. A parent complained which launched a full investigation into the matter. Casey was originally suspended for two weeks, but decided to quit.
He tells WDAY 6 news he's sorry for what he said and got caught up in the heat of the moment. Now, three assistant coaches are filling Casey’s position until the district decides if it will hire someone. One of them tells us the situation is “pretty bad.” Some parents are angry and don't want Casey coaching anymore.
The Superintendent refused several times to go on camera. Our calls to the entire school board were not returned. Coaches, players, and parents declined to go on camera as did Roy Casey. Casey is still teaching physical education for the district.
