(WDAY TV) - A teen from Dalton, Minnesota is hoping to set a national record. 16-year-old Jasmine Jordan wants to be the youngest person to run across the country.

Jordan says she's doing it for a good cause, trying to raise awareness for truck drivers and their families that can't afford healthcare. The run will take her from California all the way to New York City. Money raised will to the St. Christopher's Fund which is also known as the trucker’s fund.

The non-profit group provides medical financial help to truck drivers who can't afford it. Sheila Groethe is the inspiration behind the run. She worked at the family's business and died from cancer in April.

Jasmine says she couldn't afford to see a doctor. Jasmine will be out of school for almost a year, but will keep up with her studies online.

“Through webcam, I’ll be able doing my classes. I'll be able to see the classroom, see what teachers are teaching and they'll be able to see me.”

Jasmine will run 3,159 miles during her journey.
