Fargo, ND (WDAY Sports) - Something had to give tonight in the playoff opener for the F-M RedHawks. The RedHawks had lost eight of their last 10, but had won 8 of 10 against Winnipeg.

Game one of the best of five in Fargo and in a short series you've got to win game one if you have it at home.

3rd inning, the Hawks try to turn two, but Jeremiah Piepkorn's throw is low. Ruben Salazar gets plowed over, Goldeyes go up 2-zip on the error. The benches empty as Salazar wasn't happy about the collision, but cooler heads prevailed.

3-0 Goldeyes in the bottom of three when Carlo Cota puts the Hawks on the board. Their first hit, it's a home run, 3-1 Winnipeg.

In the next inning, the Northern League batting champion, Piepkorn, redeems himself with a solo shot of his own, Hawks down 3-2.

It stayed that way until the 7th. With 2 on, Kevin West crushes the T.J. Stanton offering. The 3-run homer gave Winnipeg a 7-2 lead, they win it by a final of 7-3.

The Goldeyes hold the league's top hitting team to just six hits and lead the series 1-zip. And the other road team wins tonight too, as Gary gets a 4-3 win at KC.
