Wahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) - Universities and colleges across the state of North Dakota are getting hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight binge drinking on campuses. WDAY 6 Reporter Stephanie Goetz tells us how North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton is using the money for more late night entertainment.

NDSCS students will soon have a lot more late night activities to choose from, rather than your typical college party. That's thanks to a 13,000 dollar alcohol prevention grant. Statewide, the North Dakota university system will give out 371-thousand dollars to eleven campuses, including Jamestown College.

The money will go towards starting activities like late night dances or bowling for students, plus training for alcohol counselors to meet with students; all ways to prevent binge drinking.

"North Dakota, as we all know, is ranked highest in high-risk drinking and so in all ages, adult and underage drinkers; so hopefully it'll bring some awareness."

The money will also help fund an online assessment form that any student here at the school can take. Basically it'll show how much money you could save and where you could spend it on other than on alcohol.
