Deputy Dewey continues to recover, still unable to talk

The man accused of shooting a Mahnomen County Sheriff's Deputy wants to be moved to a new jail.

(WDAY TV) - The man accused of shooting a Mahnomen County Sheriff's Deputy wants to be moved to a new jail.

33-year old Thomas Fairbanks told a judge he's being threatened by Pennington County jailers. Fairbanks says they're threatening to kill him and poison his food.

The judge is still considering his request. He wants to first find out how much additional money would be needed to transport Fairbanks if he's moved.

The man Fairbanks is accused of shooting, Deputy Chris Dewey, continues his recovery in a Colorado hospital.

Chris' wife Emily says he's continuing with therapy for his head, neck, arms and finger control. Emily says they still are trying to work on a communication system with Chris. He's still unable to talk.

A tissue expansion surgery is scheduled for next Friday where an expander will be put under his scalp.
