Wisconsin native wins the Bobcat Open in Fargo

Every golfer in the valley had to be smiling today once they stepped outside to see clear skies and not a breath of a breeze, especially those in contention at the final round of the Bobcat Open where a 14 thousand 500 dollar top prize was on the line.

Bobcat Open final round

Every golfer in the valley had to be smiling today once they stepped outside to see clear skies and not a breath of a breeze, especially those in contention at the final round of the Bobcat Open where a 14 thousand 500 dollar top prize was on the line.

Fargo, ND (WDAY Sports) - Every golfer in the valley had to be smiling today once they stepped outside to see clear skies and not a breath of a breeze, especially those in contention at the final round of the Bobcat Open where a 14 thousand 500 dollar top prize was on the line.

There were several local challengers in the hunt, Detroit Lakes' Mike Berg with the putt at the par 3 12th. He shot 72 to tie for 4th. Former Spartan standout Josh Persons was in the hunt. This his 3rd shot to the par 4 14th. It rings off the pin. He makes the putt, he also tied for 4th.

Iowa's Jordan Weber was making noise. This putt at par five 17th, Weber remains at eleven under. Then at 18, he’s just short of the green. Some terrific touch, Weber shoots 68 and is the leader in the clubhouse.

Patrick Stolpe began the day with a one shot lead. He came to 18 up one. This 3rd shot, nice chip, but leaves a tester. He needs to make this or we go to a playoff, but Tolpe gets it done. It's his first professional win for the Wisconsin native.

2007 champ Kane Hanson finishes 17th. For Stolpe he also gets a paid trip to Q-school and says he didn't mind the pressure.

“I think nerves are good at least it means you're close, like I said I really had no clue where I was I had no idea that the putt on the last hole was to win. It's pretty exciting for me. I haven't won a golf tournament for a while, so it's nice to get back in there.”

Stolpe said he wasn't planning on trying out for Q-school, but today changed that.
