Minor league manager fined for fight

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks manager Doug Simunic has been fined an undisclosed amount by the Northern League for an on-field fight with Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Tom Vaeth on Monday night in Winnipeg.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks manager Doug Simunic has been fined an undisclosed amount by the Northern League for an on-field fight with Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Tom Vaeth on Monday night in Winnipeg.

RedHawks General Manager Josh Buchholz says Simunic will not be suspended. He was in uniform and coaching again Tuesday against the Goldeyes.

Buchholz says the team feels Simunic was punished appropriately, and the matter is done.

The incident happened after Goldeyes pitcher Ace Walker threw behind RedHawks hitter Nic Jackson in the fourth inning. Simunic allegedly slapped Vaeth with an open left hand and attempted to hit him three times with a closed right fist.

Simunic told a Winnipeg newspaper that Vaeth got too close to his face. Vaeth said he was trying to protect his player from verbal abuse and didn't expect to get hit.
