St. Paul investigating bleacher collapse at circus

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A spokeswoman says the city of St. Paul is working with Circus Juventas to learn why the bleachers collapsed during a show Sunday evening.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A spokeswoman says the city of St. Paul is working with Circus Juventas to learn why the bleachers collapsed during a show Sunday evening.

Angie Leitner of the inspections department says the city issued a permit for the bleachers in 2006, but there have been no complaints or inspections of them since then.

She says that as of Monday afternoon, it's too early to speculate why they collapsed.

Seven people were taken to the hospital after the collapse about 10 p.m. Sunday. Police say there were multiple injuries, but most appear to be minor.

Witnesses say the crowd had just stood up to cheer when the bleachers gave way.

Circus Juventas is a performing arts circus school for children. The collapse happened during the final show of the season.
