MSHSL bans high-tech swimsuits in competition

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota State High School League has outlawed high-tech swimsuits in prep competition effectively immediately.

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota State High School League has outlawed high-tech swimsuits in prep competition effectively immediately.

The league board issued a statement Wednesday saying it had adopted a measure approved Tuesday by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Minnesota league Associate Director Lisa Lissimore says the swimsuits have been controversial in Minnesota for about a year.

The new rule limits swimmers to one swimsuit constructed of a woven/knit textile material that's permeable to water and air, and doesn't aid buoyancy and doesn't have zippers or other fastening systems.

Suits for males can't extend above the waist or below the top of the kneecap. For females, suits cannot extend beyond the shoulders or below the top of the kneecap.
