Fargo, ND (WDAY Sports) - The Bison Sports Arena is still pretty busy this time of the year even in the dog days of summer. Right now the new class of freshmen for NDSU's women's basketball team is working out and while they may not be the Fab Four, they think getting a early start will pay off pretty soon.

“There’ll be a huge advantage. It's great to already play with them. You get to know what everyone likes to do, and don't like to do.”

It's a version of summer school for the Bison women's basketball team. Four freshmen are learning the ropes of college basketball and in the process learning about each other.

“It’s new to have different teammates, its fun meeting new people and that they're going thru the same thing as you are.”

Six five center Janae Burch is going thru a transition. She's been used to being the tallest player on the court in high school and knows her game has to adapt.

Now I’ll be playing against girls my size so that'll be hard. I actually have to fake them out instead of shooting over them.”

If changing how they've played the game wasn't hard enough, they say it's a whole lot faster too.

“You gotta be quicker, communicate with your teammates, leadership from upperclassmen, picking up on it.”

There are two more freshmen that are not practicing yet, Paige Beck and East Grand Forks' Ashley Tingelstad.
