Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Every year the North Dakota Horse Park draws thousands of racing fans and this year workers are expecting even more people to make the trip to the track. That's because there are a lot of new additions to the park, making it more enjoyable for racing fans. WDAY 6 Reporter Christina Vaughn joins us live from the horse park with more on the improvements.

The General Manager here at the horse park says racing fans let them know they wanted something better. So management listened and this season there are a handful of changes.

“The more we can offer people, the more fun they can have out here. So the better it is for everyone.”

All you have to do is walk inside the horse park's building to notice the difference; a concrete floor under your feet, a big improvement from last year's sand and carpet covering.

“It’s been quite a summer getting everything in to place so that at four o'clock today we're ready to go.”

You'll also notice a full cafe with more food options for hungry race fans. Once you're ready to place your bets, you'll find it much more convenient. A new computer system is installed, making it faster for people to place their bets.

“More tellers on tap to keep our lines short and people get back out so they can watch the horses.”

Outside, a brand new scoreboard is up front and center, making it easier for people in the stands to see who's in the lead.

“Try to just make it better and better each year and stuff like that.”

All of the improvements cost around 50 thousand dollars. The park was able to make it all happen from donations and grants from the visitors and convention bureau and workers hope it pays off. They're trying to top last year's opening night and break the five thousand mark.

“Bringing in, trying to get better things; trying to make it better for the crowds, because they're the ones who come and support us.”

The park could meet its goal of breaking 5000 people tonight. There are already a lot of box seats and pre-sold tickets off the market. If you still want to come down, its four dollars at the door and the races run until 9.
