(WDAY Sports) - To golf now and there was plenty of drama in the final round of the State Match Play golf tournament at Oxbow; youngster Nathan Anderson on his home course, against Bismarck’s Mike Huber.
On the 12th Anderson with the great sand shot to save par and halve the hole. He was 2 down to Huber thru 12, though.
On the par five 14th, Huber drains the birdie putt so Huber 2 up thru 14.
Huber was 1 up on the 16th hole and watch and listen to Huber’s approach on 16. It his the flag and falls to within 3 feet, but Huber would miss the putt that would've put him 2 up with just 2 to play.
On the 17th, after Huber parred, Anderson had to make this one to extend the match and he drains it, Huber 1 up going to 18.
On 18, Huber had this short putt to win the match, but again, he misses it.
We didn't have to wait long for a conclusion. On the first extra hole Huber, from the rough, puts his approach to within a foot!
That meant Anderson had to make 12-foot birdie putt to extend the match. It slides by and Mike Huber is your State Match Play Champion, beating Nathan Anderson 1 up in 19 holes.
Extra holes were also needed in the finals of the Forum All City Golf Tournament at the Meadows. Moorhead grads and good friends Nick Olsgaard and Pat Deitz squared off for the title.
Things were all square thru 13 on the par five 14th Deitz chips it close. He'd birdie from there to go 1 up.
Olsgaard even things up on the next hole. The great flop shot to within a few feet, he makes the birdie putt to square the match again thru 15.
On the 17th, Deitz looked as if he would drop a stroke, but comes up with the clutch 15-foot par save. We're still even.
On the 18th, Olsgaard has this 12-foot birdie putt for the win, but it just misses and we'd go to extra holes.
On the first extra hole, the par five 1st, both players had birdie putts. Deitz' attempt hits the lip but won't fall. Meanwhile, Olsgaard, a little shorter try and he drains it for the win. Nick Olsgaard is your Forum All City Champ, beating pat Deitz 1 up in 19 holes.
