GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — A man who died after jumping off rocks at a popular Missouri River swimming site has been identified as 24-year-old John Hart of Emerado, N.D.

Cascade County Sheriff David Castle says an autopsy will be conducted to establish an official cause of Hart's death. Castle says Hart was visiting friends when he went missing Thursday while swimming in the Missouri about 40 miles southwest of Great Falls.

Witnesses said Hart jumped off rocks at the Mountain Palace Fishing Access Site near Cascade at around 8 p.m. Thursday. He surfaced and was swimming next to a friend, but witnesses say they got separated and Hart didn't make it to the river bank.

Hart's body was found Friday about half a mile downstream.
