Lake Park, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A former school teacher in Lake Park Audubon is tonight trying to piece back together his reputation and image following a nasty year-long allegation that he had sex with a 15-year old student.
A jury in Detroit Lakes has found 26-year old Jared Sanborn innocent of the charge leveled by the girl, who was a friend of the Sanborn family, his story on re-building from WDAY 6 Reporter Kevin Wallevand.
“The feeling was so surreal finally justice was done.”
At times Jared Sanborn gets emotional over what has been taken away from him he says this past year.
“Nobody understands what I am going through; no one knew what I was going through.”
A teacher's worst nightmare became reality 16-months ago, a student alleging a sexual relationship with Sanborn.
“From the time of the allegation to trial was 16-months. That tells me inconsistencies trying to build something out of nothing and credibility of the case.”
At the time, Jared's father was critically ill. A family business needed him, and so he resigned as a teacher at LP-A. That fueled more gossip.
“Part of me wanted to blame God, one thing after another and another.”
Sanborn knows one thing; this has all squashed a dream of a career in education.
“I love coaching and I love kids we had a great group of kids out there, never will do it.”
While a gallery packed with friends, family and former teachers supported him throughout; Sanborn knows he must now work to erase a tarnished image, a damaged reputation.
“I think everyone can breathe a little easier even if they are on the fence you can’t blame them for having doubt but now they can say the truth has come out.”
Taking out loans to pay off his defense and trying to put a life back together. Becker County prosecutors and investigators were not available for comment today on the jury verdict.
