Mercer County considering switch to Central time

STANTON, N.D. (AP) — Mercer County officials say they'll ask the federal government for advice on changing time zones. The Beulah Chamber of Commerce wants the county to switch from Mountain time to Central time. An advisory vote in 2000 showed support for the idea, by a narrow margin.

Beulah chamber spokesman Kevin Flaagen says western Morton County, south of Mercer County, has since gone to Central time. He says the change is supported by most industries, the medical community and schools.

Mercer Commissioner Lyle Latimer says the issue will be discussed again after the commission finds out what the federal Transportation Department requires to make the change.
