(WDAY TV) - Sometimes the way things have always been done is not the way they should be. That’s tonight on Further Review.
Every year the spring sports schedules roll into the office, and every year we laugh at the games and meets that are slotted for early April.
yet every year, the well meaning North Dakota activities people cram the spring schedule in the months of April and May and every year half the schedule gets cancelled postponed or suffered through.
It’s time to make a few changes and move it all back. Yes it would be nice to have it all wrapped up with a bow on top by Memorial Day when school lets out, in Missouri, no problem.
In North Dakota, it just shouldn't be. Look at the track kids shivering through 75 percent of their meets, or the golf kids who hardly ever get to bust out the short sleeves.
We never see the best these kids have to offer because they can't get good weather to practice and play in. Now I know this year skews it a little, but let's be honest, the first Fargo North golf meet was scheduled for April 7th. How many years out of 10 will that actually be played?
Wisconsin doesn't have a single state tournament before June 1, every one in North Dakota, except for class A boys golf, is in May. It’s not a perfect solution, summer school is starting, summer job conflicts, coaches trying to keep a rein on kids who are done with classes, but it's a better answer.
We have to take a look at where we live, and apply a little bit of common sense, move everything back two to three weeks, let your season go into June. We’ll get better performances, and have happier moms and dads in the bleachers.
