WARROAD, Minn. (AP) — Warroad schools are switching to a four-day week starting next fall to cut costs.

School Board Chairman Phil Heppner says the vote was 4-2 Monday night for the change.

He says the board's goal is to cut $900,000 from the budget. The board expects a four-day week will save about $140,000 in busing expenses and some utility costs.

About 15 positions have been cut, too, including a handful of teaching jobs. Warroad High School Principal Bill Kirkeby had the least seniority among the district's administrators, so he's returning to being band director.

Heppner says the district used the MACCRAY district in central Minnesota as a model of how to construct four-day week, Heppner said. The public school in Blackduck is also going to a four-day week next fall.
