GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - A 19-year-old pedestrian was injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 17th Ave. S. and S. Columbia Road in Grand Forks at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say Walter J. Morin, of Grand Forks, was walking south on S. Columbia on the sidewalk when he stepped onto 17th Ave. and was struck.

20-year-old Kabita Rai, of Grand Forks, was driving a blue Toyota Corolla north on Columbia and was attempting to make a left turn to go west on 17th.

Rai turned in front of a Ford Taurus, driven by 22-year-old Travis H. Fladeland, of Grand Forks.

Police say Rai failed to yield to Fladeland and struck his vehicle. Rai then struck Morin and came up onto the berm at the northwest corner of the intersection.

Morin was taken to the Altru Hospital emergency room with non-life threatening injuries.

Rai was cited for being an unqualified operator of a vehicle and for failure to yield.

Fladeland was cited for driving without liability insurance.

An Altru nursing supervisor said Morin was treated and released Wednesday night.

Grand Forks police were assisted at the scene by the Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru paramedics.
