Man Crashes Car, Leads GF Police on Foot Chase

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - A man led police on a foot chase Wednesday afternoon after running a red light, crossing a median and crashing his car in front of Wendy's on 32nd Avenue South.

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - A man led police on a foot chase Wednesday afternoon after running a red light, crossing a median and crashing his car in front of Wendy's on 32nd Avenue South.

According to Trooper Matt Denault with the highway patrol, at around 1:30 p.m. he attempted to pull over Scott Sherette, 37, of Fargo, who was driving white Mercury Sable with a personalized North Dakota license plate of "BOXING" traveling north on Interstate 29.

Denault said Sherette stopped, gave Denault his driver's license then drove off. Denault saw Sherette take the 32nd Avenue exit and head east, running through a stoplight at 38th Street South.

The vehicle jumped the median heading east briefly in the west lane before jumping the curb and coming to a stop in the grass on the north side of the street near the Wendy’s restaurant at 3760 32nd Avenue South.

Sherette got out of his car in front of Wendy's and ran north.

The Grand Forks County Sheriff's Department, Grand Forks Police and the North Dakota Highway Patrol searched the area for about 25 minutes before locating Sherette in the wooded area just west of the Columbia Mall.

An employee at Wendy's was on break when she saw Sherette crash in front of the restaurant.

She says she saw him come across the lanes of 32nd Avenue South at a high rate of speed. She says he "flew over the median" before coming to a rest.

"I thought what was going on, is this person okay? So I got out of my car and I started running towards the car and all of sudden I see him get out and run," witness Mckay Compeau said.

Sherette is charged with DUI, driving under suspension, fleeing, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon.

Sherette is being held at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center and the investigation is ongoing.
