GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The southbound and northbound lanes of I-29 in Grand Forks were closed around 6 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a suicidal man on the overpass.

The call came into dispatchers as a suicidal man on the 32nd Ave. overpass armed with a knife.

When police arrived, they found the man on top of the embankment, underneath the deck of the overpass.

Police worked with the North Dakota Highway Patrol to close the portion of I-29 and the 32nd Ave. overpass. The interstate was closed for 10 to 15 minutes as police worked to subdue the man.

Several officers drew their weapons and pointed them at the man.

He eventually gave himself up voluntarily and was taken to Altru Hospital via ambulance for observation.

There are no charges filed against the man and police say they did not find any weapons.
