GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - You may have seen him around town. One of the biggest dogs in North Dakota lives right here in Grand Forks.

Astro is 140 pounds and 38 inches tall standing on all fours.

The two-year-old Great Dane tends to get a big reaction. We spent a day with Astro at the dog park to see just how much attention he really gets.

"He's well known here. We'll go for walks and people will say, 'there's Astro,'" Astro's owner Connie Momerak said.

With his father weighing 170 pounds, Momerak says she knew Astro would be big. Along with treats and occasionally grass, he eats nine cups of food every day.

"He was really tiny, but now he's like huge. I don't think I've ever seen any other Great Danes that big," McKenzie Byron said.

"I take it for granted, so to put it in perspective our lab is 100 pounds and walks right underneath him, so that says something I guess," Momerak said.

"He's honestly the biggest dog I've seen come here and I've seen Mastiffs come and they're pretty big too but this dog is just enormous," Bethany Dahl said.

So big that her 85-pound German Shepherd cowers under picnic tables when he sees Astro.

"We usually walk the other way because he's definitely big - he's never done anything to be aggressive - but he's big," Dahl said.

"He's part of the family, he really is. Drool and all," Momerak said.

Astro is also a certified therapy dog and enjoys spending time with residents at Valley Memorial.
