GF County Sheriff Releases Crime Data; Assaults, Vandalism Up

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Both assault and vandalism crimes have become more frequent in Grand Forks County over the last decade. Crime statistics released from the Grand Forks Sheriff's Office were broken down into various categories.

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Both assault and vandalism crimes have become more frequent in Grand Forks County over the last decade.

Crime statistics released from the Grand Forks Sheriff's Office were broken down into various categories.

Overall, incidents have stayed pretty even over the last ten years. But Sheriff Bob Rost says the biggest concern is the rise in drugs and narcotics, specifically prescription drugs.

"As far as our incidents, drug crimes are up. We're making a lot more arrests though too at the same time," Rost said.

Assault was the most frequent crime in the last two years. The number of assualts rose 20 percent from 2010 to 2011. There were 102 in 2011 and 85 in 2010.

Other crime stats

- Drug or narcotic incidents - 97 in 2011, 85 in 2010, 22 in 2002.

- Larceny/theft - 101 in 2011, 74 in 2010.

- 19 motor vehicle thefts in 2011, 11 in 2010, 18 in 2009.

- Burglary or breaking and entering - 39 in 2011, 27 in 2010, 44 in 2009.

- Vandalism - 93 in 2011, 74 in 2010, 54 in 2009.
