BEMIDJI, MN (WDAZ-TV) A manhunt in Beltrami County continues Tuesday night after an inmate being led to an appointment at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center was able to escape.

Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp says Jason Lee King, 21, of Redby, MN, was being escorted from the Beltrami County Jail just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday when he evaded a corrections officer in a foot chase that went east and north from the hospital campus.

King was being held on armed robbery charges stemming from the robbery at Newby's Store in December.

Bemidji police officers and sheriff's deputies followed tracks in the snow to a house on Irvine Ave. that led to the driveway where it appeared King had entered a pickup truck and driven away.

A neighbor told authorities they saw a red pickup driving north on Irvine Ave. from the house.

A Red Lake police officer spotted the pickup entering the reservation on Highway 89 and attempted to stop King, who sped north, away from the officer and a pursuit began through Red Lake and into Redby at speeds reaching 90 MPH.

The Sheriff's Office says King drove into the oncoming lane, running cars off of the road.

Officers followed King through roads near Fireline Road and the South Boundary Road on the Red Lake Reservation. King eventually crashed on South Railway Road and fled on foot into the woods.

Officers from Koochiching County, Clearwater County, the Minnesota State Patrol, the FBI and the U.S. Border Patrol assisted Red Lake police, K9 units and Beltrami County deputies.

If you have information, call Red Lake police at 218-679-3313 or the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office at 218-333-9111.
