GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Two people were injured and one woman arrested after a crash at 3400 Gateway Drive just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Ebony Miles, 26, of Grand Forks, drove a 2001 Nissan through a stop sign and struck a 1997 maroon Ford Escort station wagon driven by Raymond Umphrey, 64, of Inkster. Also in the vehicle was Raymond's wife Florence Umphrey, 63.

The couple was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. At 8:30 p.m., Raymond had been treated and released and Florence was in serious condition.

The crash happened just south of the Budget Inn Express in the westbound lane of Gateway Drive.

Umphrey's vehicle spun around and was struck on the driver's side by a 2008 Black Kia, driven by Anthony Brieger of Grand Forks along with passengers Susan and their son, who weren't injured.

"The driver was alert and had a big scratch on the top of his head. The lady in the passengers seat had a big goose egg bump on the top of her head and it was bleeding and she bit her tongue and was bleeding from her mouth," Susan Brieger said.

A passenger involved in the crash told WDAZ that another witness saw a bottle of alcohol in the front seat of Miles' car.

"Well she got out of her car and started coming over and I was mad of course and calling her names and stuff and she wanted to get in a fight with me," Brieger said.

After the crash, Miles drove her damaged vehicle north just a few dozen yards to the Budget Inn Express parking lot. The general manager said that Miles had to out of the passenger's side of the vehicle in order to get out of the car.

Mile was apprehended about a half hour later by UND police. She was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.

"Thank god I have insurance. I just hope she does because someone is buying me a car," Brieger said.

Assisting police at the scene were the UND Police Department, Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru paramedics.
