GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The Phi Delta Theta fraternity on the campus of the University of North Dakota has been suspended by its general council after numerous members were charged with drug possession.

Eight members of the local chapter and a pledge were either cited or charged with drug offenses following a search warrant exercised by the Grand Forks Area Narcotics Task Force.

Two of them were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Six other members, including the local chapter president, were cited for possession of marijuana or possession of marijuana paraphernalia or both.

The events occurred on November 8.

The action prohibits undergrad members of the chapter from using the fraternity's name or symbols and from continuing any operation or resemblance of operations as a fraternity chapter.

According to a release from the fraternity's headquarters in Ohio, individuals that were arrested or cited have been disciplined.
