FARGO – A police officer was assaulted as police tried to control a melee in a north Fargo apartment Thursday morning, resulting in the arrest of five people, Lt. Joel Vettel said.
Officers responded at about 4:20 a.m. to a report of a domestic violence situation in the 100 block of Seventh Avenue North, Vettel said.
Police spoke with the alleged victim and went to an apartment in the area to investigate, where they encountered a loud party, Vettel said.
Officers knocked on the door, but no one answered, and soon they heard arguing, fighting and sounds of breaking glass inside the apartment, Vettel said.
Police entered the unit and fought with several people as they tried to control the scene, he said.
No officers were injured. Some of the people in the apartment had minor scrapes from the broken glass, Vettel said.
Two men and three women were arrested on a variety of charges, including assault on a peace officer, preventing arrest, aggravated domestic violence and loud party violation, Vettel said.
Alcohol was a factor in the incident, he said.
