GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Police have identified the man who shot and fatally wounded himself outside of the Altru Hospital emergency room Tuesday morning.
31-year-old Sean Alexander Dacus shot himself once in the chest around 11:30 a.m. Dacus served two tours of duty, once in Afghanistan and another in Iraq.
Dacus drove his vehicle to Altru and actually went inside for a brief period of time and spoke to some employees.
Dacus then went back outside and sat on a bench between the clinic doors and ER doors, where he shot himself in the chest.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that Dacus wrote on his left arm with a marker "Do not resuscitate" and "donate organs please," along with what police believe to be his blood type.
The bullet did not pass through Dacus' body, and no one else was injured.
Emergency personnel tried to resuscitate Dacus, but they were unsuccesful.
Police say the act was pre-meditated but did not target Altru.
"Our investigation leads us to believe that it was planned out. At no time was anybody at Altru at-risk or the public was at-risk at any time," GFPD Lt. Brett Johnson said.
Police say the only fortunate part of this tragedy is that no one else was injured or threatened.
An autopsy is underway, and police aren't stopping the the investigation. They plan to continue to speak with family members to get more information.
