Heavy Smoke Causes Gravel Truck To Hit Woman's Car Near TRF

A Brooks, Minn. woman was injured after being rear ended by a gravel truck on Highway One east of Thief River Falls just before 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

A Brooks, Minn. woman was injured after being rear ended by a gravel truck on Highway One east of Thief River Falls just before 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

35 year-old Lori Nelson was eastbound when she came upon thick smoke from a large wildfire. Nelson nearly stopped in the traffic lane as cross winds created zero visibility.

56 year-old Michael Gerdes was also eastbound driving a gravel truck when he hit the patch of smoke. Gerdes saw Nelson's car at the last moment and slammed on his brakes, but his truck rear ended her vehicle.

Nelson was injured, but has been treated and released. Her passenger, 43 year-old Robert Wold was not injured. Gerdes was also not injured.
