(WDAZ-TV) - The Polk County Sheriff's Office says that a local restaurant notified them of a possible credit card scam.

The suspect caller told the restaurant they wanted to place a food order for a wedding party totaling $1,100. The caller asked the restaurant to charge the credit card $2,000 and send the remaining $900 to the catering service.

The suspect caller gave all credit card information and provided a name.

The restaurant owner thought the call was suspicious and notified the Sheriff's Office of the possible scam.

After two days of attempted communication with the restaurant, the caller said he didn't want to do business anymore and ended the transaction.

Tips to avoid scams

- Don't accept or run a credit card for over the amount of purchase.

- Don't forward any remaining funds to another business.

- Don't cash checks and forward remaining funds to another business through money orders.

- Most of the scams are from out of the country, so finding the suspects are nearly impossible.

If you notice any suspicious activities, call local law enforcement.
