GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - An AFL-CIO rally for jobs was kicked off Thursday with a speech by BCTGM union president Frank Hurt.

Hurt called for an end to the lockout of sugar beet workers and urged the corporation to negotiate in good faith.

He also called for a fair and equitable collective bargaining agreement.

He says the union will not be the party that folds to an unfair deal.

"They (Americn Crystal) didn't decide to do this in the middle of July. It takes a lot of planning to do it," Hurt said.

Hurt says he was very surprised when American Crystal Sugar locked out union employees and he says he'll do what he can to get people back to work.
