(WDAZ-TV) - The former supervisory pharmacist and director of the outpatient pharmacy at a Belcourt, ND, hospital was sentenced Monday to two years of supervised probation.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon ordered Douglas T. Aos, 56, of Belcourt to also pay restitution and a $100 assessment to the Crime Victim's Fund.

Aos pleaded guilty to the charge on June 27, 2011.

From May 2008 until June 23, 2010, Aos worked at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Facility in Belcourt. Aos stole prescriptions for controlled substances that had been filled out but not picked up by patients.

The prescriptions should have been returned to stock, but Aos would steal the pills and not enter them into the system as returned, according to a release from Purdon.

The case was investigation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of Inspector General, and Bureau of Indian Affairs.
