PEMBINA, ND (WDAZ-TV) - A Breckenridge, MN, woman was arrested after she failed to stop at the Pembina port of entry and drove in the wrong lane of I-29.
On September 22 around 1:45 p.m., the unnamed woman, 47, was driving a silver Oldsmobile Bravada southbound on I-29 in the northbound lanes against oncoming traffic.
The woman eventually crossed through the ditch and returned to the southbound lane.
Border Patrol officers spotted the vehicle and followed it. The driver eventually pulled over about three miles south of the port when she realized she was being followed.
The woman and the vehicle were returned to the port of entry. She was turned over to the North Dakota Highway Patrol and arrested for driving under the influence. She was also given a civil penalty for failing to stop at the port.
“The quick action of the CBP officers involved prevented a possible life-threatening accident. Those individuals that attempt to avoid the inspection process will be dealt with in accordance to CBP laws and regulations,” said Pembina Assistant Area Port Director Mary Delaquis.
