Police Still Searching For EGF Ortons Armed Robbery SuspectEAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - Police are still looking for the suspect that robbed an East Grand Forks gas station at knifepoint Thursday night.
EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - Police are still looking for the suspect that robbed an East Grand Forks gas station at knifepoint Thursday night.
Officers responded to Orton's Tesoro gas station shortly after 9:15 p.m.
Police say two employees were in the store when a man wearing a ski mask entered with a knife and demanded money.
"We had three officers respond initially and then we called in other help. We had Polk County Sheriff's Office and Grand Forks police also helped in the search. They searched for several hours last night," East Grand Forks Police Lt. Rodney Hajicek said.
K-9 teams helped with the search, but police still haven't found the suspect as of 6 p.m. Friday.
No one was hurt in the robbery, but the man threatened at least one of the employees while demanding money.
"Employees followed our safety procedures which are intended to protect themselves as well as our customers, which would be to get the person in and out of the store and have minimal cash levels on hand," vice president of Orton Oil Frank Orton said.
This is the second armed robbery in East Grand Forks in less than two years. Both have been at the same Ortons store.
"Yes, that raises concerns when we have multiple robberies at one store," Orton said.
"The public is our eyes and ears always and if they've seen anything please call the police department even if they think it was a minor detail. Please give us a call and just tell us what you saw and if you were in that area last night," Hajicek said.
Police don't know how much cash the robber got away with yet. Orton says there could be a review of their security procedures to prevent any future robberies at this location.
"I'm sure we'll review it. We have cameras and surveillance on site and you know, we take the same security measures there that we do at all of our stores," Orton said.
The suspect is described as a white male. He was wearing a checkered shirt and a gray ski mask with only his eyes showing.
He's described as about 6' and around 150 pounds.
