GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - A man charged with terrorizing and sexual assault has reached a plea agreement with prosecuting attorneys.
Ryne Anderson, 19, of Grand Forks, will spend one year in jail and will be on probation for five years. He also has to register as a sex offender and undergo a psychological evaluation.
Anderson might be able to serve the sentence on work release.
According to a police report, Anderson and the victim, who was 17 at the time, dated for a period of time, but broke up.
In the beginning of February 2010, the victim received text messages, Facebook messages and verbal communication from Anderson saying he was in trouble, according to the report.
Anderson told the victim that his life was in danger and he needed help.
The messages got progressively worse and continued for some time. Anderson told the victim to not tell anyone because "they" were watching her and him, referring to "drug dealers."
Anderson said the "drug dealers" had demands that had to be met in a specific timeframe or people would be hurt or killed, including her and her family.
Authorities say the "drug dealers" never existed.
The two had sex twice in February of 2010. Physical force wasn't used.
Anderson's attorney had said that no crime occurred because his client's story was so unbelievable that the girl couldn't have found any truth to the claims.
According to the North Dakota Courts website, the charge of terrorizing was dismissed as part of the agreement. A felony jury trial scheduled for October 3 was canceled.
