FOREST RIVER, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Smoke continued to rise from the Forest River Farmer Elevator on Wednesday. Firefighters worked into the night trying to put out the blaze that started Tuesday afternoon.

Smoke was noticed coming out of the top of the elevator around 4:15 Tuesday afternoon.

By the time firefighters arrived, the elevator was engulfed in flames and ther wasn't much they could do except for damage control. But that was tough because of estimated wind gusts of up to 30 miles an hour.

13 local fire department were on the scene to help and no one was hurt in the blaze.

"It was very fast, especially the wood trimmings. It's dried out over the years and the wind yesterday, 30 miles an hour, I mean it just fueled the fire. Impossible to stop," elevator manager Greg Novak said.

Flames still shot up Wednesday in several hot spots and may take a couple more days until the fire is fully out.

The elevator is fully insured and will be rebuilt.
