PEMBINA, ND (WDAZ-TV) - The sentencing date for a Pembina man convicted of murder has been set.
Miguel Medina-Romero will be sentenced on October 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Medina-Romero was found guilty of shooting 19-year-old B.J. Kalis outside a home in Pembina in October of last year. Authorities had said Medina-Romero had called 911 claiming he shot an intruder in self-defense.
He was acquitted of tampering with physical evidence. Medina-Romero had pleaded not guilty on all counts according to the North Dakota courts website.
Medina-Romero was found guilty of murder, unlawful possession/manufacture of a controlled substance (cocaine) and manufacture, deliver, or possession with intent.
Murder and manufacture of a controlled substance are Class A felonies and are each punishable by up to 20 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
