BEMIDJI, MN (WDAZ-TV) - A tree that fell into the Mississippi River in Bemidji has created a bit of a problem for boaters.
The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office says the tree fell into the river where it meets Lake Bemidji in the 3000 block of Riverside Drive NE on the east side of Lake Ave. NE.
The tree isn't blocking the river, but is blocking a deep channel. Boaters should slow down and raise their motor before trying to go downstream towards Stump Lake.
The side of the river that isn't blocked is the shallow part. The tree has been marked with buoys and the Sheriff's Office says it won't be able to be removed until Monday because equipment isn't available until then.
